MayRetreats- Kundalini Yoga 6.15pm Mon 29 April 2019@ Prana Lounge, Col 7

Vesak retreat - final

As we grieve and suffer on this small Island of Sri Lanka for the dead and injured  in last week’s attack, we still as yogis keep compassion and hope in our heart.

As we move into May this week after a long, slow April full of holidays and horrors. Shiv Charan encourages us to tune into the lessons being learnt through our 5 senses and 5 elements (earth, water, fire, air & ether) that gives our body the experience of life. The body becomes the divine temple.  Let’s connect deeply with the body in the physical experience of it, whilst still keeping connected to the inner experience of self. The mantra of this month can be KARTA PURKH which means creative being.  Create the harmony of daily life with spiritual existence. Between action and stillness.

Practical Tips

This you can do by having a strong practice this month, it is needed as well as deep meditations that take you to a still place.  Your words are also very important this month so think before you speak.  Use your words and voice as inspiration. Read poetry. Chant your words into your food as you cook and then invite your loved ones to share a meal with you.

Kundalini East Sunday – Gong Bath SriYoga Shala 6-7.30pm

tmb-yoga-teacher-fiona-raymond-1495605355

This Easter let us practice resurrecting ourselves and lets do this constantly again and again picking ourselves up each time we fall.  Let us use the collective consciousness of many souls celebrating Easter to elevate our electromagnetic field to be so bright and shiny that we bust out of our blues or downward spirals to feel so elevated & great that we want to be in our own company and others feel great to be around us.

Yogi Ji said,

“Learn from Jesus resurrect, go above it. That Jew did it, they all reacted to him. Roman reacted to him, he didn’t react, he resurrected. They got him after day and a half cured him he lived in Kashmir” (KWTC – Lecture, July 30, 1992, Espanola, NM)

Let us also use the energy of the Full Moon in Libra to close the door on old habits and patterns  and open up new doors of opportunity, with a Green Energy Set and deep meditation.

Reduce Inflammation with Kundalini Yoga – Mon 8 April 6.15pm

kid

Happy Holidays everyone as we gear up for Sinhala and Tamil New Year. I will around after 16 April to continue with classes. Just look out for my schedule below including a Poya Gong Bath.

This week I will focus on the vagus nerve as we focus on the healthy part of 3ho. I was inspired by an article I read in the KRI newsletter by Raj Kaur Khalsa (Naila Omar Khayyam Alieva), Ph.D.and Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. In summary they looked at various studies done on how inflammation in the body (defined as an immune system response to acute injury, chronic illness, etc which inflames tissues, blood vessels, organs, etc) is effected by regular yoga, breathe, meditation practice.

The significant studies are mainly conducted in India. Firstly those patients doing a regular combined yoga, breath & meditation practice showed reduced expression of gene activity involved in the inflammatory response that are created by stress. Second, yoga breathing exercises and meditation have been demonstrated to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1 beta, IL-6 and TNF-alfa and have a positive impact on depression, anxiety, cognition, and pain. Lastly, yoga and other practices are well known to directly stimulate the vagus nerve. It was found that an increase in vagal tone is correlated with the capacity to regulate the stress response and likely contribute to resilience and the mitigation of mood and anxiety symptoms, which ultimately might reduce inflammation symptoms.

The conclusion is that we need to make a proactive decision to engage with lifestyle changes which can help us a lead lives which are healthier and reduce long term  inflammation response but this takes discipline and effort which we need to develop and invest in ourselves.

For the full article please go to https://kundaliniresearchinstitute.org/?page_id=1019#nine we will discuss what is the Vagus nerve and how it can assist us next week.

Gong Bath Meditation Today 6 April 2019

GONG BATH AT HOME with Shaunagh TODAY SAT 6TH APRIL 6.00-7.30PM.

145/5 Fife Road, Colombo 5

Call Shaunagh – 0773 022142 for details

What Happens during a gong bath?

We begin by warming up the body with a few simple yoga stretches. This prepares your body and mind and makes listening and aborbing the sound of the gong an enriched experience. Then you will lie down on your back, relax completely and allow the sound of the gong to penetrate every cell in your body. You may fall asleep, many do (especially the first time) or you may just drift in and out of consciousness, and lose all track of time.

The sound of the gong allows us to move beyond the boundaries of the mind. Through our mind we have constructed our fears, unhealthy habits and blocks. A gong bath allows us to suspend our minds magnetic thought patterns, clear blocks and unwanted habits. 1 hour is equivalent to 4 hours deep sleep. I will bring you slowly back to consciousness after one hour of gong playing and you will feel lighter and much more relaxed.

Please bring mosquito repellent and a cotton cover and yoga mat.
Investment: Rs1000
