Yoga Bhajan Birthday – 6.15pm Mon 26 August Prana Lounge by Donation

This week we come together as a Yoga community and spiritual family to celebrate Yogi Bhajan’s birthday, 26 August 1929, the legacy and technology of Kundalini yoga that he has left us.

He was not the inventor of Kundalini yoga, but for me he systemised it into a formula that you and I can understand and more importantly use in our daily lives, to be healthier, happier and feel connected to our spirit. The love I feel for our teachers comes from this.

We will join in celebration with the many communities all over the world that will come together this Monday, 26 August to honour Yogi Bhajan and celebrate his tireless teaching, coaching, comforting and elevating his students through his life and through the teachings.

This year the venue is Prana Lounge where we will start with a Kundalini yoga kriya, deep gong relaxation, ending with a Healing circle meditation and sharing of food and laughter. Please bring some food to share and pay a donation to Prana Lounge.

Yogi Bhajan’s Birthday Celebrations 6.15pm on 26th August 2019 at Prana Lounge, Colombo

We come together as a conscious community to celebrate the birthday of Yogi Bhajan’s the Yogi who delivered the Raj Yoga of Kundalini Yoga to the Western World. This year the celebration will be a cosy, community focused event at Prana Lounge by Donation. 6.15-7.15pm will be the Kundalini Yoga Class and Gong relaxation followed by a 31 mins Ra Ma Da Sa healing circle. If you cannot make it in time for class come for the healing circle. Afterwards we will share food. Fiona will bring veggie soup and salad, Shaunagh is baking a cake so pls bring something to add and share. Food will be shared at 7.50-8.30pm.

Executive Brain & Kundalini Yoga – 19 August 6.15pm Kundalini Class Prana Lounge

brain yogaSat nam, feeling very happy to be back teaching in Sri Lanka and looking forward to our Level 2 and Level 1 Teacher Training coming up.

Increasingly I have been reading about how as a society we wish to increase our executive brain function.  But first of all, what is executive brain function and how can Kundalini yoga help us increase this cognitive feature in our brain?

Executive function is an umbrella term for cognitive processes that regulate, control, and manage brain processes, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning, inhibition, mental flexibility, task switching, initiation, monitoring etc.

Executive brain function is seen as important because it helps us gets things done, quickly effectively, efficiently, multi task and juggle different types of thinking. I.e. the more we can focus, plan and practice the better our brain works for us.

The area of the brain that controls executive function is the frontal lobe.  With age the area of grey matter which includes the front lobe decreases. With regular practice of Kundalini yoga and meditation we can not only increase the grey matter of the brain but also work on being able to go past the mind saying, I can’t and the body saying I do not want to. Giving yourself the ultimate freedom to make decisions not based on a reactive mind.  Try it out for yourself as we do a set of meditations this week and conduct your own study of your brain.
