Contentment – Kundalini Yoga 6 Nov 2019

harmony

Sat nam, as we head towards week 2 of our Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Level 1, I wish to focus your mind on relaxing into contained, contentment.  I was inspired by reading a passage by one of my favourite authors RK Narayan in A Tiger for Malgudi.  The conversation between a Tiger and his Master.

“Do not crave ….It is enough you have realisation.  All in good time. We cannot understand God’s intentions. All growth takes place in its own time. If you brood on your improvement rather than your short comings you will be much happier “.

We all have a tendancies to focus on how far we have to go. The achievements we still have to accomplish. The shortcomings in our practice, our personality our lives.  The Masters is telling us to relax, understand all happens in time.  Focussing on our improvement’s and successes will encourage us to keep up, keep on the path.  This is real trust, trusting that what needs to happen will, which allows us to put your full effort into what we are doing. This conscious effort will end in a state of GRACE.

Sat nam see you this week. Love Fi x www.sanasuma.co.uk  0778011094 raymond.fiona@gmail.com

Workshop on Pranic Healing with Tonie Nooyens
Purifying the Subtle Energies Flows
9am-12.30pm

During this workshop we will focus on the subtle energy “Prana” that flows through us: through our body, our mind and our thoughts. The focus will be sound and mantra to project our thoughts outward and inward, to remove blockages, to purify inner and outer energy, and heal imbalances, taking us into a state of physical and mental balance and well-being, taking away the roots of stress and depression.

How to Play Gong Workshop with Tonie Nooyens
2-4.30pm

A yoga and meditation workshop focusing on the use of sound as part of our yoga and meditation practice. During this workshop we will practice breathing and silent meditation, and we will use mantra as a tool to transform disturbing thought patterns. We will go through a gentle sequence of breathing, yoga and meditation exercises to prepare ourselves for deep healing through the vibration of the gong.

This workshop includes brief explanations on the working of sound, the practice of mantra and on playing the gong.
Silent meditation is effective to get to know yourself, but mantra meditation can break through deep rooted thought patterns…

The sound of the gong creates deep relaxation, releasing us from the torrent of thoughts, removing blocks, reducing tension, and re-arranging our emotional energy and feelings…

Gong Bath for full Moon – Opportunity from crisis 12 Oct 5.30-7pm Prana Lounge

IMG_0557

Being able to cope with difficult times and crisis in your life is all about redefining how you see life.  Finding the opportunity in the crisis.

Yogi Bhajan tolds us that there were tough times ahead with the change in age, into a super-fast, high technological informational age and fake information abounding. But he also encouraged us to see these times as a test, so we could put into practice all of our yogic technology to turn crisis into opportunity.  When crisis comes don’t be crushed by it and see it as a challenge and know you can overcome it. Say to yourself I can overcome this problem. Know that you have already won the battle.

Yogi Bhajan said” if you see a weakness in yourself and you don’t accept it, this is the crisis, this is tragedy. The Universe is not selective, it has to serve everyone. Know that the Universe will support you and don’t worry, go humbly, smiling”.

Kundalini Yoga is not just an exercise, it is awareness. All exercises, meditations, kriyas are helping you to get into this aware state of mind. When crisis strikes, breathe deep and use this awareness to support you, it is when you allow the subconscious habit and patterns to take over that you fall down.

IMG_4803

So this full moon, when you feel the crisis come and feel yourself sliding into your old patterns of behaviour in your relationships, be conscious, use all your senses to communicate in an open, honest and respectful manner to uplift the relationship and the situation.

Perception and Kundalini Yoga

6a00d8341bf7f753ef01bb09e83fd1970d

Sat nam yogis not everything in life goes as planned, but feelings of disappointment or upset are all attached to our perception.

We have certain deep seated perceptions about ourselves, our limits, who we are, etc. These are countered by our desires, our dreams.  We have an inkling but no real knowing of what we are projecting through our mind. In the mist of our jumble of thoughts and emotions we co-create our Universe, “the what is” and then it happens to us.  But instead of feeling like we are co creators we feel like life is against us.

The gap between the reality of what we project through our mind, the what is and our desire, dreams expectations etc,  is the frustration, anxiety, unhappiness, etc. we feel.  In short, we just keep on getting what we normally get and keep on desiring a different outcome. Nothing seems to change.

When our overly, assertive, positive mind says, “Oh it was just not meant to be”. Know this is just a defence mechanism to make you feel better but ultimately keep you from living your dreams. We need to change our affirmation from frustration which makes us feel important. To spending time every day to reduce the noise in our minds after meditation and dream our dreams and affirm, “I will succeed. I have forever”.   When we put a time limit on our dreams we are setting ourselves up for the expected failure, or “I knew it would not work”, because once again being right is more important than being happy and complaints gain sympathy, again a short-term pleasure but not getting you to a place of joy.

Let’s this week take the challenge of learning to develop patience, notice how your body is feeling at any point in the day and relax it. Feel joy in your heart for just being and keep an empty mind except for projection of our desires and dreams.  If you want life to be different you need to change your thinking. Use the affirmation, I will succeed, I have forever. Watch or read the book by Ted Chiang, Arrival it will really make you feel a change in perception.

Kundalini Yoga – 6.15pm 23 Sept @ Prana Lounge

The Retreat

Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training 2019 has started off as a deeply transformative experience for the students and training team alike.  We learnt through experiential workshops about our breath signatures, how our nervous system has plasticity to change as a result of glial cells, the compassion at of the heart of a kundalini yoga teacher, the Vayu’s in yogic anatomy, the quantum technology of mantra that affects us as a cellular level, etc. during 7 intensive days starting at 5am and ending at 6pm.

The Venue  as usual we started off in Colombo spending our last 3 days at Guava House, enjoying the variety of birds, squirrels, nature and prana which was an uplifting experience.  We ended the last morning on the misty pool deck at Guava House with Sadhana staring at a starlit sky before chanting into the dawn to clear the stories that litter our subconscious and stop us living in the present moment.

The Food was delicious local, seasonal veggies and fruit. With homemade muesli, buffola curd, delicious coconut milk curries, red rice and a range of handmade kittul pani treats at tea time.

Yoga Bhajan Birthday – 6.15pm Mon 26 August Prana Lounge by Donation

compassion

This week we come together as a Yoga community and spiritual family to celebrate Yogi Bhajan’s birthday, 26 August 1929, the legacy and technology of Kundalini yoga that he has left us.

He was not the inventor of Kundalini yoga, but for me he systemised it into a formula that you and I can understand and more importantly use in our daily lives, to be healthier, happier and feel connected to our spirit. The love I feel for our teachers comes from this.

We will join in celebration with the many communities all over the world that will come together this Monday, 26 August to honour Yogi Bhajan and celebrate his tireless teaching, coaching, comforting and elevating his students through his life and through the teachings.

This year the venue is Prana Lounge where we will start with a Kundalini yoga kriya, deep gong relaxation, ending with a Healing circle meditation and sharing of food and laughter. Please bring some food to share and pay a donation to Prana Lounge.

Executive Brain & Kundalini Yoga – 19 August 6.15pm Kundalini Class Prana Lounge

brain yogaSat nam, feeling very happy to be back teaching in Sri Lanka and looking forward to our Level 2 and Level 1 Teacher Training coming up.

Increasingly I have been reading about how as a society we wish to increase our executive brain function.  But first of all, what is executive brain function and how can Kundalini yoga help us increase this cognitive feature in our brain?

Executive function is an umbrella term for cognitive processes that regulate, control, and manage brain processes, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning, inhibition, mental flexibility, task switching, initiation, monitoring etc.

Executive brain function is seen as important because it helps us gets things done, quickly effectively, efficiently, multi task and juggle different types of thinking. I.e. the more we can focus, plan and practice the better our brain works for us.

The area of the brain that controls executive function is the frontal lobe.  With age the area of grey matter which includes the front lobe decreases. With regular practice of Kundalini yoga and meditation we can not only increase the grey matter of the brain but also work on being able to go past the mind saying, I can’t and the body saying I do not want to. Giving yourself the ultimate freedom to make decisions not based on a reactive mind.  Try it out for yourself as we do a set of meditations this week and conduct your own study of your brain.

Feeling Secure in Dangerous Times – Kundalini Yoga 6 May 2019

Feeling Secure in Dangerous Times – Kundalini Yoga

We are still reeling from the shock of these attacks, but we cannot let them close us down.  This week let’s try and understand insecurity  and work out how to effectively deal with our mind in these insecure times.  Yogi Bhajan states, “The only purpose of life is not to be scared of insecurity. Insecurity does nothing but scare a person, It’s a scarecrow.”

Feelings of insecurity arise when we do not trust ourselves, others or situations. When we feel like this we subconsciously send out the message that we are not worthy, good enough to love, be happy, prosperous, enjoy life, etc.  This closing ourselves down and being stuck in our negative mind and reactive personality can leave us feeling very vulnerable.  Learning to feel comfortable in our own skin in any situation is key.  Allow yourself to feel sad, fear, upset, angry but do not let your decisions or actions be guided by these emotions.  Process them on the mat, in your meditation or by being conscious of your emotions.  Now is the time to practice being the watcher, watch yourself, be aware and let go. So we can help the collective consciousness let go of these tragic events. Guru Singh says make everywhere your home so you feel dominion not the insecurity to dominate people or places.  Energetically our insecurity is related to our third chakra which reflects our personal power and sense of self.  It is also directly related to our stomachs, situated to the left of the sternum.  When this energy centre is not strong and balanced, we lack the trust in our power, we settle for bad relationships, jobs, family situations because we are too afraid to take a risk and change things.   We  use our stomachs to numb ourselves, avoid feelings by overeating and feelings physically too full.

Practical Solutions

Focus on your strengths – Research shows that when you concentrate on using your signature strength in different ways everyday it makes you happy and you are not focusing on your weaknesses which make us feel insecure.   In fact If you are using any 4 of your top 7 strengths you feel your life is in flow.  For example my top signature strength is Fairness, so if I include someone who is marginalised, this makes me feel really good.  What do you think our character strength is?

Ishnaan -Take a cold shower every morning.  Well Ishnaan is a little more than just a cold shower please look up the technique.  I really recommend it, it helps get rid of those negative thoughts, complaints about lack of sleep, sadness, etc that you experience sometimes after dreams or subconsciously.  Yogi Bhajan says whenever you feel bad, take a cold shower and then towel yourself down vigorously until your skin feels flush and tingly.  This uses our nervous system and capillaries to make the blood chemistry changes which will help with how we feel and our security.

Mantra – Yoga Ji, said using the firs puri of the Japji, Sochai, Soch n Hovee… as well asChattra Chakkra Vartee will support in getting rid of insecurity and bring victory to the soul.

Meditation – When we go within and see our thoughts and emotions when we meditate we realise that these thoughts and emotions are not us, in fact we become consciously aware and this helps us separate the insecure feelings from our true self and connection to our infinity or soul Sat nam x raymond.fiona@gmail.com   0778011984  www.sanasuma.co.uk  www.3ho.org
