Feeling Secure in Dangerous Times – Kundalini Yoga 6 May 2019

Feeling Secure in Dangerous Times – Kundalini Yoga

We are still reeling from the shock of these attacks, but we cannot let them close us down.  This week let’s try and understand insecurity  and work out how to effectively deal with our mind in these insecure times.  Yogi Bhajan states, “The only purpose of life is not to be scared of insecurity. Insecurity does nothing but scare a person, It’s a scarecrow.”

Feelings of insecurity arise when we do not trust ourselves, others or situations. When we feel like this we subconsciously send out the message that we are not worthy, good enough to love, be happy, prosperous, enjoy life, etc.  This closing ourselves down and being stuck in our negative mind and reactive personality can leave us feeling very vulnerable.  Learning to feel comfortable in our own skin in any situation is key.  Allow yourself to feel sad, fear, upset, angry but do not let your decisions or actions be guided by these emotions.  Process them on the mat, in your meditation or by being conscious of your emotions.  Now is the time to practice being the watcher, watch yourself, be aware and let go. So we can help the collective consciousness let go of these tragic events. Guru Singh says make everywhere your home so you feel dominion not the insecurity to dominate people or places.  Energetically our insecurity is related to our third chakra which reflects our personal power and sense of self.  It is also directly related to our stomachs, situated to the left of the sternum.  When this energy centre is not strong and balanced, we lack the trust in our power, we settle for bad relationships, jobs, family situations because we are too afraid to take a risk and change things.   We  use our stomachs to numb ourselves, avoid feelings by overeating and feelings physically too full.

Practical Solutions

Focus on your strengths – Research shows that when you concentrate on using your signature strength in different ways everyday it makes you happy and you are not focusing on your weaknesses which make us feel insecure.   In fact If you are using any 4 of your top 7 strengths you feel your life is in flow.  For example my top signature strength is Fairness, so if I include someone who is marginalised, this makes me feel really good.  What do you think our character strength is?

Ishnaan -Take a cold shower every morning.  Well Ishnaan is a little more than just a cold shower please look up the technique.  I really recommend it, it helps get rid of those negative thoughts, complaints about lack of sleep, sadness, etc that you experience sometimes after dreams or subconsciously.  Yogi Bhajan says whenever you feel bad, take a cold shower and then towel yourself down vigorously until your skin feels flush and tingly.  This uses our nervous system and capillaries to make the blood chemistry changes which will help with how we feel and our security.

Mantra – Yoga Ji, said using the firs puri of the Japji, Sochai, Soch n Hovee… as well asChattra Chakkra Vartee will support in getting rid of insecurity and bring victory to the soul.

Meditation – When we go within and see our thoughts and emotions when we meditate we realise that these thoughts and emotions are not us, in fact we become consciously aware and this helps us separate the insecure feelings from our true self and connection to our infinity or soul Sat nam x raymond.fiona@gmail.com   0778011984  www.sanasuma.co.uk  www.3ho.org

Vesak retreat - final

As we grieve and suffer on this small Island of Sri Lanka for the dead and injured  in last week’s attack, we still as yogis keep compassion and hope in our heart.

As we move into May this week after a long, slow April full of holidays and horrors. Shiv Charan encourages us to tune into the lessons being learnt through our 5 senses and 5 elements (earth, water, fire, air & ether) that gives our body the experience of life. The body becomes the divine temple.  Let’s connect deeply with the body in the physical experience of it, whilst still keeping connected to the inner experience of self. The mantra of this month can be KARTA PURKH which means creative being.  Create the harmony of daily life with spiritual existence. Between action and stillness.

Practical Tips

This you can do by having a strong practice this month, it is needed as well as deep meditations that take you to a still place.  Your words are also very important this month so think before you speak.  Use your words and voice as inspiration. Read poetry. Chant your words into your food as you cook and then invite your loved ones to share a meal with you.

tmb-yoga-teacher-fiona-raymond-1495605355

This Easter let us practice resurrecting ourselves and lets do this constantly again and again picking ourselves up each time we fall.  Let us use the collective consciousness of many souls celebrating Easter to elevate our electromagnetic field to be so bright and shiny that we bust out of our blues or downward spirals to feel so elevated & great that we want to be in our own company and others feel great to be around us.

Yogi Ji said,

“Learn from Jesus resurrect, go above it. That Jew did it, they all reacted to him. Roman reacted to him, he didn’t react, he resurrected. They got him after day and a half cured him he lived in Kashmir” (KWTC – Lecture, July 30, 1992, Espanola, NM)

Let us also use the energy of the Full Moon in Libra to close the door on old habits and patterns  and open up new doors of opportunity, with a Green Energy Set and deep meditation.

Reduce Inflammation with Kundalini Yoga – Mon 8 April 6.15pm

kid

Happy Holidays everyone as we gear up for Sinhala and Tamil New Year. I will around after 16 April to continue with classes. Just look out for my schedule below including a Poya Gong Bath.

This week I will focus on the vagus nerve as we focus on the healthy part of 3ho. I was inspired by an article I read in the KRI newsletter by Raj Kaur Khalsa (Naila Omar Khayyam Alieva), Ph.D.and Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. In summary they looked at various studies done on how inflammation in the body (defined as an immune system response to acute injury, chronic illness, etc which inflames tissues, blood vessels, organs, etc) is effected by regular yoga, breathe, meditation practice.

The significant studies are mainly conducted in India. Firstly those patients doing a regular combined yoga, breath & meditation practice showed reduced expression of gene activity involved in the inflammatory response that are created by stress. Second, yoga breathing exercises and meditation have been demonstrated to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1 beta, IL-6 and TNF-alfa and have a positive impact on depression, anxiety, cognition, and pain. Lastly, yoga and other practices are well known to directly stimulate the vagus nerve. It was found that an increase in vagal tone is correlated with the capacity to regulate the stress response and likely contribute to resilience and the mitigation of mood and anxiety symptoms, which ultimately might reduce inflammation symptoms.

The conclusion is that we need to make a proactive decision to engage with lifestyle changes which can help us a lead lives which are healthier and reduce long term  inflammation response but this takes discipline and effort which we need to develop and invest in ourselves.

For the full article please go to https://kundaliniresearchinstitute.org/?page_id=1019#nine we will discuss what is the Vagus nerve and how it can assist us next week.

April, Kundalini Yoga and The Heart

April New Year and the Neutral Space

Shiv Charan & Fiona

Sat nam, after an amazing end to our Kundalini Yoga Level 1 Teacher training Cycle 4, we start April the month of Sri Lankan summer blooms, heat, our new year with a renewed commitment to Dharmic living. This means living in line with your soul’s purpose.  April is a good time to take a reality check.   This is the 4 month of the year where we need to pause, take a breath, connect with our true nature, Sat nam or spirit to make sure we are headed in right direction.  In this month we need to remind ourselves of self-love, be in good uplifting company or Sangat spiritual community, prayer and relaxing into our hearts to trust where there is doubt.

In order to go within we need to find moments in our life were we can foster inner silence so we can hear the quiet voice of the neutral mind. On a practical level this can be when we are standing in a queue, showering, waiting for our computer or app to turn on, just before bed, etc…. Try not to fill every waking moment with listening to a podcast, reading the news or chatting.  Instead listen to birdsong, listen, see your thoughts (mindfulness), be still, silent even with friends and family and enjoy a comfortable silence, silent mindful meals and allow your imagination blossom.  Are we surprised that if we do not allow for inner and outer silence during our day, that our minds gets activated just before bed since we have kept it so occupied with soaking up information all day that it has not had a chance to process and calibrate this information.

trust-e1436536636481

This week we will practice really slowing everything down so we can let go of confusion and control to fall into silence, strength of trust.

All Night Gong Bath – 16 Mar 2019

Gong Puja or All night Gong Bath    Sat 16 March 2019

Price including a healthy breakfast 5000Rs

9pm to 8am

Originated by Gong master Don Conreaux, the all night gong immersion (aka Gong Puja) experience lasts about 7 ½ hours. It’s a journey that’s timeless, and as we journey with the vibration of the gong, we cleanse, unblock and experience the real self. Don Conreaux says this is the most healing experience you can give yourself. An all night gong bath allows the brain to sink into a delta wave frequency, where deep healing can take place. This process promotes a sense of peace and well-being, strengths the nervous system, balances the chakras and increases energy and vitality.

The evening starts at 9pm with a short Kundalini yoga class followed by a meditation. Next we will set up our sleeping areas and relax into a meditative space created by the gongs. After a restful night, we will experience a yogic morning: Sadhana, Kundalini yoga, meditation and light breakfast. The whole experience will end at 8am. Powerful, profound, joyful and deeply moving, it can be a life changing event.

WHAT TO BRING: A WATER BOTTLE, EYE PILLOW, PILLOW, COTTON BLANKET AND BEDDING FOR A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP, AS YOU DRIFT OFF TO THE SOUNDS OF THE GONG. BE MINDFUL THAT THE AREA YOU WILL BE USING AS YOUR SLEEPING SPACE WILL BE THE DIMENSIONS OF A YOGA MAT. LOOSE COMFORTABLE CLOTHES ARE RECOMMENDED.

Optimism & Kundalini Yoga

optimist-and-pessimstic-chart-01-1

Optimism and Kundalini Yoga

As we enter the third month of 2019, a number 3 year, we look towards being positive and optimistic about life as we use the energy of the number 3 to expand our positive outlook on life. The Director Guillermo Del Toro says, “Optimism is Radical. It is the hard choice and the brave choice …in the face of despair”.

This month let’s make the choice between love and fear. Belief over despair. Optimism is our instinct to inhale when we are out of breath, not to give up when things get difficult. You need to make this choice time after time, to keep inhaling and not let the news, or fake news, everything crumbling around you, your relationships dissolving whatever is going on in your life, take you down.   Make the choice to face it, take a deep breath and choose to inhale to face another moment with hope, breath after breath.

Balancing the Gunas -Kundalini Yoga Poya Class 19 Feb 9.45am Om Shambala

38674396_452141915303215_8697543820780240896_o

Balancing the Gunas

The yogis call the time prior to the big Bang the Unmanifested consciousness and after the Big Bang when matter and polarity is created, the separation between the Unmanifested and Manifest Shiva (creator) and Shakti (the destroyer).

Matter (Prakirti) is composed of 3 aspects or in Sanskrit Gunas. Gunas cannot be destroyed but the dominance of Gunas can be changed to change our perception of life.

I am going to relate the 3 gunas to the flavours of food. The flavor of a fresh raw apple, in its pure essence we could relate to the sattva guna.

When we add some spices and sugar to the apple it changes its true state to something different, something warming, expanding our taste buds, we have created something new and exciting out of the original pure taste of apple, a flavor of rajas guna.

If we get that same apple and ferment it, a process of deterioration into its sugary and finally alcoholic parts to make cider. When we drink cider it makes us slow, our limbs feel heavy, we feel attached to our opinions, too much may make us feel angry or confused, this is the tamas guna.

So why it this important? Well our thoughts, feeling and actions come from how we perceive life and the how we see life comes from the predominant guna influencing us at that moment

For example if you are feeling depressed, your mind and body are being dominated by tamas. If you are feeling angry again this is the tamas domination of your gunas. At present both these states of being are seen as the status quo in our society. More and more people are suffering from mood disorders, which are only made worse by taking drugs or alcohol which only increase the tamas quality of the mind. Directing your anger on twitter or social media without thought of how the communication will impact on another person, comes from the tamas guna. Yogi Ji reminds us that tamas gunas dominance is not the norm for a human being, in fact we are sattvic by nature or angelic. But this is going to depend on your lifestyle and how well your mind is disciplined

He gave us the gutka shabad to stop the mind when it gets insane. He said to chant a minimum of 5 times

“Ek Ong Kaar, Sat Gurprasaad. Sat Gurprasaad, Ek Ong Kaar.

It will stop the negativity of the mind and put it in reverse, it is a mantra that will reverse the downward spiral of the thoughts. Chant it with reverence as it is really powerful and then make sure your words and thoughts are positive. We will also be practicing the Tershula kriya this week which balances the gunas.3ded86ad97f79f8ccf06366f4b977ba0.png

Love, attraction & Kundalini Yoga

authentic_relationships

Attraction – Kundalini Yoga and relationships

If we think that a romantic relationship will complete us, make up for our lack of self esteem or make us happy we are wrong. Dr Hair Simian says.

It is in the nature of an intimate relationship to reveal some of our deepest attachments and neuroses. Without a consistent way to dissolve the patterns of the subconscious, the patterns of the subconscious will dissolve the relationship. Our fear, limitations, and attachments define the limits of our tolerance. Tolerance is the foundation of a relationship. If you are looking for a perfect and ideal person to relate to, there isn’t one. If you’re going to reject your partner due to his or her faults or misguided concepts, you might as well leave now and save time. If you live for each other and encourage your partner to grow, develop, and expand in tolerance, you will be happy in that relationship. Growing and changing together develops the depth of a relationship. Share your growth.

If you ask your partner to complete you, you will be completely unhappy. We are by nature whole, complete, happy humans with a spiritual identity. If our identity relies on our relationship, the fluctuations of that relationship will bring you with it. If instead you rely on developing your relationship with yourself and your soul then you will remain steady.

Qualities to think about in a relationship:

  • Am I attracted to that person’s consciousness and spirit?
  • Do we share common ground on our, vibratory compatibility, similar vision regarding children, etc?
  • As conscious humans we are tolerant and grow in tolerance towards our partners.
  • If you want a relationship so you can get sometime out of your partner you will not be content. If your focus is on giving to the Universe, the Universe will serve you. When giving is your intention, you will be deeply satisfied in your relationship.
  • We all want a warm and cozy home. When the home has a cozy, warm, and graceful environment, the relationship has a warm nest to grow in. When the home is chaotic and disruptive, then division and isolation can happen between the partners. When there is freshly cooked food and the house smells good, it is difficult to argue. Happiness can be attained at home.
  • We must nurture our relationships by making time for each other. Withholding love and an attitude of scarcity will constrict and restrict the love between two people. If you don’t have time to hold your beloved, then it is time to adjust your schedule.

Sex starts at the third eye or 6th chakra with intention and perception. The balance of your nervous system and glandular system is important.

Dr Hari Simran says: The parasympathetic nervous system controls the rest and relaxing functions of the body and is necessary to access for arousal. If there is any fear or stress in the relationship or individual insecurity, then sexual arousal is blocked. In Kundalini Yoga therapy we recommend long deep breathing through the left nostril, Kirtan Kriya, and gong meditation to help access the ability to relax. To achieve a full orgasm requires accessing the sympathetic nervous system. This requires a degree of sexual tension, attraction, and passion. If couples “take each other for granted,” the passion begins to be elusive. In Kundalini Yoga therapy, we suggest that couples chant together, participate in White Tantric Yoga®, and do yoga that stimulates the sympathetic flow.

Self Care February – Kundalini Yoga 6.15pm 4 Feb @ Prana Lounge

February and Self care

Shiv Charan tells us that February is the self care month. He says it is a good time to do some spring cleaning. Clear out the old to invite in the new. We could do a house clearing but he said also to concentrate on the body, to get in touch with ourselves and work out our real needs.

https___cdn_evbuc_com_images_54316194_284021037977_1_original

The 2nd month is related to the second body the negative mind, which is a very cellular and subconscious experience. It contains memories of unfinished stories and unpleasant experiences of the past. If you let this naïve wisdom based on confused interpretations colour your experience of the moment you may wish that February did not exist. So be very mindful this month. Let’s work this week on clearing the subconscious so we can feel the pull of this month’s longing that leads us back to the truth of self care and self love.
