The Science of Chakra’s – Kundalini Yoga 29 May 6.15pm@ Prana Lounge

Kundlaini_Meditaiton

When the yogis discovered the sound, workings, co relationship of the Chakra system, they developed it into a whole science. This total science gave birth to Kundalini yoga. What for me was the OMG moment when rediscovering the Chakra system was that by knowing the workings of each chakra you can better understand where and why you are off balance.

We discussed last week how the human body was like a musical instrument constructed of strings or surs, which vibrate with the flow of pranic energy. Out of these 72,000 strings there are 3 major surs that control the rest. Pranic energy flows like a waterfall from the crown downwards collecting in seven energy pools at the chakras.

The upper chakras vibrate with each thought of the mind. They carry this vibration down to the lower chakras which create the shape of the physical, emotional and mental bodies.

First Chakra, Muladara, is located at the base of the spine, perineum and rectum. It deals with security, grounding and the instinct to survive. It also works on eliminating anything you no longer need, food waste, unneeded emotions, thoughts, etc. From complex to basic or common elements. It is linked to your sense of smell because if you hold on to everything you end up reeking or eliminating well allows you to have a sweet smell. Habit is a big part of this chakra you develop conscious habits which finally can be done unconsciously. Trust is the key to balancing this chakra, trust in the earth, yourself and the unseen. This is a key problem in the modern world. When in doubt in your first chakra, secure yourself and hold to the old patterns.

Second Chakra, Svadhisthana is located in the sacrum, kidneys, ovaries and testis. It deals with creativity, reproduction and relationships. It also embodies duality and polarity as 1 becomes 2. It is the first taste of merger. The element water is associated with it and like water, feelings flow or get damned up. Research shows that our memories are categorised as much by feeling as anything else. When this chakra is unbalanced you may develop shallow relationships, shame of the body and sexuality, inadequacy or wild child behaviour. We use Sat Kriya, and frog pose not to stimulate and increase the energy of this chakra but to balance it. When balanced you can have fulfilling intimate relationships, a passion for life, generosity and willingness to share. The sense is touch and the colour orange. When in doubt in your second chakra find your feelings and follow your passion.

Third Chakra, Manipura is located at the navel, solar plexus, and upper digestive system. This is the area of our strength, will power, sense of control and coordination. It is ruled by the element fire and coordinates sight and vision. Fire can also make you an angry fiery person if not directed correctly into determination. It is at the navel that energy is gathered and distributed, this is why the first thing during the wake-up routine is stretch pose with breath of fire. When in doubt in your third chakra, act. This is the realm of the spiritual warrior, you know where you want to get to and can gather the energy needed to get there, fearlessly. When you feel insufficiency energy you may compensate with reaching for energy in from of carbohydrate or sweet foods, drugs and stimulants.

Fourth Chakra, Anahata is located at the sternum, thymus gland and heart. This is your centre of compassion, empathy, joy, grief, bitterness, attachment, loneliness, passive aggressive. It gives us the sense of touch, that is why we say when someone speaks from the heart, it touches us. Air is the element associated with this Chakra. Expression of the air element when unbalanced, will manifest as giving to those who do not want or need it. The heart is stimulated by Prana, any blocks of the diaphragm deeply effect the heart chakra. So, it is recommended to do Pranayama daily to increase the flow at this heart centre.

Fifth Chakra, Vishuddha is located at the throat, thyroid and parathyroid glands. The centre of communication and sound. If this chakra is unbalanced you can feel frustrated, not be able to express yourself, feelings of shyness, withdrawal into the mind.   Balanced you are an inspirational communicator and you will be listened to as an authority. You can create through your words and hear the subtle of what has not been said.

Sixth Chakra, Anja is located in the third eye area, pituitary gland, above the root of the nose. I perceive and I see. It is all about your intuitive mind, when out of balance you suffer from nightmares, eye problems, confusion discerning what is real, being unfocussed and psychic disturbances. When balanced, you are clear, you can connect to and rely on your intuition and are comfortable with what is, reality.

Seven Chakra, Sahasrara is located at the crown of the head and pineal gland. I know, I accept. The element related to this chakra is thought and the divine. When this chakra is unbalanced you can be close minded, doubtful, feel despairing, suffer from symptoms without cause and be self-conscious.  Balanced you can feel bliss, experience oneness (samadhi), joy, peace and wholeness as all the other chakras become integrated and connected to the seventh.

Eight Chakra, the Aura is located as the radiance of the electromagnetic field around you. The aura combines the effects of all the other chakra’s, giving you protection and projection. If the aura is balanced it appears as an oval light, symmetrical. When you are ill, it has various dimples and pockets where your radiance is dimmed. The Aura connects your inner and outer realities. It connects you to the entire Universe. When your Aura is weak you catch illness and absorb negativity energy. When strong it aligns all your chakras and your presence alone seems to work to fulfil your desire and needs.

Understand yourself through the chakra system, work out what is weak on a daily basis and take action to balance this area in your life and uplift yourself.

Shabd Guru – A Quantum Technology 22 May 6.15pm Kundalini Yoga @Prana Lounge

star-clusters-74052_960_720-300x293

We are the most amazing instrument. We discussed the power of sound to raise our vibration last week, as we played the instrument of our body and its 72,000 surs, string or meridian points. This week we go into the scicence of this quantum technology.

This may sound, forgive my pun, complicated but sound is the perfect neuro-stimulator that activates and connects different areas of our brain and it does its job so subtly that you only need to follow the instructions and feel the effect.   In fact, my small black cat understands this ancient technology instantly. He is normally very afraid of people and situations, but when it comes to Wednesday Sadhana, our early morning gathering of Kundalini yoga and chanting the Shabd Guru he is in complete alignment, he normally walks in midway and then just lies down to immerse himself in the sound current, whether it is the gong, or the sound of us chanting. He then even allows students to stroke him. This is the power of this technology that it can manipulate our very cells to bring us into the highest vibrational frequency that we can all share and relate to, even the puddy cat.

Why is it a quantum technology. It is quantum because it manipulates the smallest particles of sound and energy into effective combinations and patterns. These patterns then form the informational DNA of your spirit. A sacred rope of knots to lift you to the divine.

These primal sounds are called Phonemes and the Shabd guru uses these primal units of speech plus universal grammar under lying all language to change the psychoactive neurology of the brain. Repeating the pattern embedded in the Shabd guru ingrains that pattern of primal sound into the brain, this is the patterns of sound made at the beginning of time, the big bang so to speak. Enlightened Masters having experienced the sound current, have extracted these sounds from the Anahat (the unstruck or unmanifested sound current) and plucked these particular series of notes from behind the silence to give us a technology to heal the maladies of our time. You may ask why these particular notes and not all sounds. Because not all combinations of sounds create a pattern of wholeness and healing. The Shabds heritage is from the Sikh Guru’s but you do not have to be any religious denomination to access this technology, it is for everyone.

Why does it work.

Shabd means sound, but when you break the word down you get Sha, meaning the expression of ego and bd, to cut. Ego is formed by the minds constant automatic processing that attaches us to identify with objects, people, feelings, thoughts, etc. The Ego is not bad, just very limited.   When all your actions, thoughts, etc are attached to ego your reality becomes very narrow, and you live in the duality of pain and pleasure. When you transcend, the ego see it but are not taken by it, then you intuitively connect to the larger Self the vastness of what is and understand the play of life from this perspective.

Each primal sound is a unit that is pronounced by a particular part of the mouth. When we form a word to speak it, the tongue moves and touches the palate, the top of the mouth, and the teeth in a well-defined area. The sound of the word directs the pressure of the air and vibrates the vocal chords to stimulate specific areas in the skull. The primal sounds use these areas of reflex, attached to meridians, to direct brain patterns.

This is difficult topic to blog about because it is so experiential. The test is in the doing. Feel free to put on a Shabd Japji in the morning or Jap Sahib and listen, chant if you like but allow the process to start transforming how you see life. That is why it is easier to meditate to Mantra, because it cuts through the ego of negative and positive thoughts to the truth of you and your neutral mind.

Can your Vibration change your Life? – Kundalini yoga 15 May 6.15pm @ Prana Lounge, Col 7

Last week we used the longitude and latitude of MAN (MIND) TRA (PROJECTION) to first notice then change what we were broadcasting through our words and thoughts both conscious and unconscious. This week we look in more detail about vibration.

Do you feel you are in the flow of life today? Or do you feel like life is blocking you, things are not moving, something just does not feel right? Well there could be a physical and energetic resolution to this problem.

39a57cc9d06eb850ce91097eeffe34c3

Quantum science tells us that the Universe is a vibration of energy. We are either vibrating in harmony or disharmony with this energy. We vibrate frequently through our thoughts, words, actions, emotions, and feelings. What we vibrate out through our mind and antennas (the hairs on our body) goes out in waves into the Universe and much like a boom-a-rang we receive it back.

When life seems to be continually placing blocks along your path and nothing seems to be moving, it may be showing you that you are not vibrating in harmony with the Universe. To vibrate with the Universe is to vibrate the higher frequencies of love, compassion, and kindness. (See my earlier blog on vibrational frequencies.)

So how do we change our frequency? One of the best ways to be in the flow of the Universe is through yoga, meditation, gong and chanting mantra. The sacred sounds that attune your mind to the pure vibration of the Universe or sound current.

Shift the frequency of your thoughts to be more aligned with the high frequency of the Universe. When you bring in the higher frequency energy into you and your life watch the Universe respond by clearing your path.   Trouble comes only when you ask for it.  Try out the simple Mantra Sat nam, (chanting a long Sat and short nam) and see how you feel after a few minutes of vibrating at a higher frequency.

Mantra – Control your mind’s Broadcasts! Kundalini yoga 8 May 6.15pm Prana Lounge, Col 7

e456e9853d2fe92816e7f61cce87c479

For Kundalini yogis, the impact of sound and vibration is the teacher or Guru. We are united with the Infinite through the vibration of the sound current or Naad. Kundalini yoga prepares your body and mind and enhances your hearing capacity so that you can recognise and hear the sound current.

I am asked many times when I play the Gong, how did I learn to play? It is a mixture of developing my intuition over the last 15 years, to play intuitively. But I feel that that would not have been enough. The real key was when I learnt and chanted mantra, particularly the Long Ek Ong Kars for 4 years. This enhanced my hearing capacity to allow me to hear the sound current.

Yogi Bhanjan reminds us, that our minds are not under our control and mantra is something that can bring the mind under our control.

Let’s look at the word Mantra. Man, mind and Tra projection. Whatever sets the projection of the mind is called Tra. Tra brings harmony, Tral means harmonious notes and Tra is the projected wave length of harmony.

If I say fire the arrow at a precise longitude and latitude, I am giving you the Tra or projection for that arrow. This is the same with the mind the Tra sets the projection of where the mind wants to get to.

Mantra is a cyclable, a key, a code, a sound which fixes the projection of the mind. It projects through the mind that secret code.

When we understand that on a quantum level everything in the Universe is in a constant state of vibration manifested in either, light, sound and energy, we understand how powerful chanting mantra can be for us. This is not a religious thing or even a mystical thing, it is a practical technology that works.

Start changing what your mind is broadcasting, by chanting instead of thinking in mind loops. Start listening to your mind, emotions and also what you say. Does your projection really reflect you? Or is it , the negative self, the victim self, the judgemental self, the worrier self? And is this what you want to be broadcasting and resonating? If it is not, be the change you want to see.

The purpose of chanting is to have a direct connection with the soul or infinite self that resides beyond your mind. You chant and your mind hears the sound of infinity through your voice, there is no higher meditation you can do. Start chanting Sat nam to yourself. Even this simple phrase of truth or true self will start making a change to your mind and its projection.

Balance your Elements or Tattvas – Kundalini yoga 6-7pm 18 April @ the Om Space, Col 5

Happy Sinhala and Tamil yogies. Lets start this new year off with understanding some yogic anatomy and how this can bring us into balance. Western philosophy only recognises matter which can be anaylitical studied and believes that the only way to effect reality is through the laws of physics. Eastern philosophy acknowledges the material realm but also understands that we are much more than matter. Yogies experience to perceive reality beyond what is known through the 5 senses and understands that when you change something in the subtle realm it can create great change with minimal effort in the material realm. Therefore by working with the energy of your elements or tattvas and bringing them into balance you can shape your experience of the Universe.

There are 31 tattvas in yogic anatomy and a bit like a drop of ink in water, they move from the most concentrated form of infinity, in varying degrees to the atom. We will concerntrate on the last 5 most gross tattvas which make up the human, ether, air, fire, water and earth. Each of us has a dominant element which expresses itself most strongly in our constitution and personality. The behaviour or qualities of these tattvas are a result of the combination of gunas that predominate them, sattvic (graceful, peaceful, disciplined, intuitive, connected to soul), rajas (positive, active, emotional, demanding) and tamas (inertia, solid, persistent, lazy).

Earth Tattva – Pritvi – wellbeing of all v greed

The Earth tattva is dense, dry, cold, and smelly. When this stabilizing tattva is healthy, it brings plumpness, heaviness, compactness, and steadiness to your body, your emotions, and to your life. But an unbalanced earth element can lead to insecurity and greed.

roasted vege salad

To Balance – We can balance this element by stabilising your lifestyle i.e. your diet, exercise, etc. Earth foods are warming and heavy. Your earthy diet should focus on meals that are nourishing, easy to digest, filling, substantial, moistening, and strengthening. You might do better with small frequent regular meals, and you definitely will want to include mild warming spices. Bear in mind that staying calm and concentrating while you consume and digest your meal will help to stabilize your grounding tattva.

Sweet fruits, cooked vegetables, cooked grains, nuts, natural sweeteners, mild warming spices, and warm milk products in moderation, make up the pillars of the yogic diet to develop a strong Earth tattva. On the flip side, dry fruits, dry grains (think rice cakes), and raw vegetables bring more air tattva into your body. The cabbage family, including broccoli, also abounds in air, and contradicts your efforts to get grounded. Beans can also be a problem, like any other food that creates gas, which is pure air tattva. Barley and oats are nutritious, grounding grains. For the ‘spaced out after sadhana’ yogi, a piping hot breakfast of these foods, with some warming cinnamon or cumin, sets the tone for a grounded, solid day.

Try daily connecting with mother earth and nature. Walk barefoot on the grass, do a handstand in the garden (one of my favourites) or just lie on the grass and look up at the sky feeling grounded and secure.

Apas Tattva -Water -Lust for breath and consciousness v exploitation

This tattva is linked to your conscious and subconscious emotions. Like water emotions flow through us, but when we get stuck on one, i.e., “ I should not feel jealous, angry, upset”, etc. this is when the flow stops and the balance goes.

To Balance- The key is not to stop the emotion but to make the energy of the emotion serve you. Channel it, jealously can be inspiration, anger can be channelled into determination. When you are overly emotional try drinking more water to bring yourself back to balance. Also try this meditation when you feel over whelmed or stuck with a particular emotion that you cannot shift. Turn that commotion into devotion.

Tuck your elbows into you’re rib cage, hands in gyan mudra, arms are at 60 degrees from the body. On one deep breath through the nose chant, Sat Narayan, hari Narayan, hari Narayan, hari, hari. After 11 mins put your hands in your lap and chant Wahe guru to balance the Rajas and Tamas gunas.

I also throw myself into the swimming pool, sea (preferable) or shower after an emotional time.

Agni Tattva – Fire – Anger/Blame v Discipline/Will power over ourselves

Agni tattva is the fire of the Kundalini energy. It is increased with the practice of Kundalini Yoga. It aids in the digestion and absorption of food in order to provide the whole body with the vital energy needed for survival. Agni tattva burns our karmas, our blocks, and our fears. It gives us the strength of commitment, discipline, will-power, and the ability to carry out our intentions. It is the power to digest, absorb, and assimilate both physically and emotionally. Through the proper use of this element, we learn to fully digest the experiences that we get from life.

“You all want to get rid of your anger,” Yogi Bhajan would say. “Get rid of your anger and you won’t be able to digest your food.” The same capacity that causes us to get hot under the collar is what enables us to process food into energy. You can use this capacity to burn others, or to purify yourself. It can manifest as burnout, or as the radiance experienced in the purifying fire of Kundalini Yoga.

To Balance –Breath of Fire. Regularly monitoring yourself to make sure you are not supressing your anger thereby becoming passive aggressive. Use kriyas and exercise to sweat out the inner anger, use your determination for your Sadhana (daily personal practice).

Vayu Tattva – Air – Attachment personal benefit v Wellbeing of All

The air element is seen as the teacher or Guru. It gives us life as we can only exist for a few minutes without it. It also gives us our purpose. It carries the sound current and you can still feel its light touch. How this element works in us determines how we engage with life. Was our first breath of ease or fear, that there would not be another. Monitor your breath, are you rushing to greedily grab a breath or can you exhale deeply to evenly breath in?

SELF-LOVE-Sat-nam-Rasayan

Balance – 16 stroke breath in and out through the nose, with your hands in Venus lock with the thumbs on top next to each other at the heart area. Try and make it a continuous breath so there is no break between the inhale and exhale. End by holding the inhale, squeezing the locks for 15 sec x 3. Then just breath normally feeling the air in your spine and the spaciousness of this element.

Akasha Tattva – Ether/Spirit – Pride/Ego v Focus on Soul or Infinite

Ether is the subtlest of these 5 tattvas. It is the ability to see the subtle, beyond the obvious. It is understanding the drop of sea water contains the elements of the entire ocean. You can understand through wisdom without needing the details of how and why?

lk-fri-june19_012.jpg_-small

Balance – We can meditate on the Trikutee mantra which understands that we are our own guru or teacher. Bringing ourselves from the darkness of unconsciousness to the light of consciousness. When we recite this with devotion to ourselves it builds trust, triggers our destiny and releases fear. Meditate on Wahe guru – 11mins.  Sat nam Fi x sanasumainsrilanka.wordpress.com read our weekly blogs and brain candy updatesraymond.fiona@gmail.com www.sanasuma.co.uk 0778011984
