Mental Intrigues, the Positive Mind and Kundalini yoga

The Positive MIND and its intrigues

This week we move on to the Positive mind, the second in the three functional minds. Why do we need to know our mind, explore it and understand it?   In my experience if we do not, it becomes a monster, especially if we become locked into our mental intrigues. Yogi Bhajan reminds us, “Your mind must not intrigue you …your mind must serve you.”

Let me define the Positive mind. The Positive mind is expansive and practical. It searches for pleasure & fulfilment. It is constructive, risk taking and active. It examines every thought and feeling to determine what resources are needed. It asks, “How is this useful to me, how can this help?”

When we attach to a mental intrigue, it can make us emotional and commotional. For example suppose you start to talk about somebody, gossip. The mind may encourage you, by bringing up all the bad things that person has ever done. The negative mind does not give a critical comparison, to the good things that person has done. The neutral mind does not tell you how this person confronting you, annoying you, etc. relates to your higher purpose of teaching tolerance & compassion. When we finish gossiping our mind says you were really bad, the words leave a bad taste in your mouth, it creates guilt. You followed your mind, got caught in an impulse and tangled in an intrigue. You start to feel bad you want to defeat yourself, so you pick up every bad habit that confirms you are a failure.  Sounds familiar?

Practical Solutions

So how do we stop getting tangled by our intrigues, where the negative mind and positive mind lock and loop? We need to watch the mind and practice deep meditation to develop our neutral mind. Your mind must give you the positive and negative then show you your relationship to it all through the neutral mind.

Yogi Bhajan also invited us to develop our presence and an unlimited projection Saibhang, self illuminated, radiant identity of your spirit. Stretch your mind to infinity; abandon your cleverness for innocence, then everyone and everything will sense your presence.   Do not confront or fight the mind, always elevate its vibration. With consistent practice it will get easier.

Anatomy of Psycho Emotional Self – Kundalini yoga 6-7pm Tues 21 March 2017

Fiona yoga pose

While recently dealing with a right knee issue, I decided to go back and look at my blog on 15 August 2015 which looked at our anatomy as the psycho-emotional expression of our life.

What does this mean? It means that your body, pains, problems etc., mirror what is going on in your mind and emotions and vice versa. The body like the Universe was created in balance. Your body is always trying to get back to that natural state. When we do not deal with our emotional issues, i.e. process them correctly they create small blocks in the body, which change our movement. The physical constraint coupled with a movement that compensates for this block, ends up in chronic health problems. As I discovered with my right knee. When we start to spend time every day balancing our bodies we start to change the physical imbalance which can help process the psycho-emotional imbalance. I have created a table to help you understand how the major joints relate to your emotions and how to balance each one.

Body Part Emotion Imbalance Key to Balance Chakra
Ankles lower legs Standards, those you set for yourself verses the standards set by society, family etc. It you do not balance doing what you want to what society wants for you, you will have ankle and lower leg problems Massage the heal to 4inches along the Achilles tendon – with your thumbs 3mins.

Balancing on one foot, tree pose, eagle.

1st chakra
Knee right Motivation You make plans but do not have the energy, will, to see them through. Kriya for knees. Balancing on a block. Strengthening your willpower at the navel point to make you determined. Channel anger into determination to complete a project 1st chakra
Knee left Intention, creativity, ideas When motivation is greater than intention you get bored easily. Kriya for knees. Balancing on a block.

Be more creative, patient and master things.

1st chakra
Hips Your Purpose – conception Hips problems prevalent in old age when you are running out of time to complete your purpose Kriyas to balance the pelvis, butterfly pose. 2nd chakra
Arms Sharing and caring beyond just your self interest or

Closed heart, isolated, introvert

Open your heart, selfless service. Balancing the heart centre. 4th chakra
Shoulders Carrying the weight of your thoughts and worries on your shoulders Try to resolve worries and negative thought patterns Shoulder shrugs, kriya for shoulders and neck. Use mantra to change negative thoughts to positive ones. 5th chakra
Neck Thoughts travel from left inner ear to right inner ear via your throat When you have thought loops, unexpressed worries, this build up creates neck problems. Neck rolls, thinking and worrying less.

Use mantra to change negative thoughts to positive ones.

5th chakra

Bring your body to balance, allow this balance to work on your mind and emotions and finally affect the world around you. This is the root nature and cause of manifestation. Your purpose (pelvis) in life is to manifest your intentions (left knee) through motivation (right knee) while keeping up your principles and standards (lower leg/ ankles).

Vibrate – What energy are you sending out?

Everything is moving. It’s all energy (and matter). Everything and everyone is vibrating at its own frequency. We’re a human body full of molecules as is the mat you are sitting on and all is moving as we live on a living planet that’s also moving. The earth is orbiting the sun. The moon is orbiting the earth. I love those “you are here” photos taken from space. It helps to take this larger view. It reminds us that with the cosmos comes expansiveness and limitless possibilities.

Ready and awake

For the most part, animals in the wild often remain still, lying in wait. They reserve their energy by springing from and then returning to a natural, neutral state. When the time is right, they spring into action. They do so at just the right, intended moment.

Are we humans that much different? Wouldn’t we also benefit from springing from and returning to our own natural, neutral state? Neutral does not mean passive! It does not mean stagnation. It is not a state of non-awareness. Quite the contrary. It’s a state of full alertness. It’s being truly awake to all that’s around us!  Tip: Setting aside time for a daily practice furthers and facilitates this state of what I would call “alert neutrality.” Some forms include: meditation, prayer, quiet reflection, observation, writing in a journal.

Spring into action and make waves!

Like the strings of an instrument, be it a violin or guitar or your body — and whether it be by way of plucking, picking, or singing — each sends off a unique vibration.

We each have our own built-in vibration creator! Chanting, humming, singing, they all carry their own vibration, too. And, whether you’re on your yoga mat, in the shower, or in your car – use your voice, and vibrate to your own private cosmos!   This will raise your own frequency, and in turn will impact those with whom you interact throughout the day.

It’s as if we’re knocking on Cosmos’s door, and saying with confidence, “Hey there, Cosmos! Bring it on! I’m ready! Clear the path! Let’s go!”

Remember that you may always return to a neutral state. Reserve and extend your energy wisely. Refresh, regroup, and reset. We don’t always need to be clearing a new path. When we are ready, though, we know what to do – vibrate the cosmos, and the cosmos will provide!

Lighten the load raise your vibration

Again, a daily practice plays a helpful role in getting you back to a neutral state and in tune (pun intended) with what you desire to set in motion. What is it that you’d like the cosmos to clear the path for? What burdens are weighing you down, that when lifted, will raise your vibration?

From a place of inspiration and divine wisdom, set the vibration and then let go. Trust the cosmos to clear the path for you. When activated, your desires set in motion the future you intend to create. Your thoughts and your words hold their own vibrations, too. You get to decide which ones you embrace, and which ones you discard. With this (e)motion set in motion, you’re primed to take inspired action. That one action in turn creates another, and another, and so on, and so on. The ripples continue on, creating the desired results.

That is not to say that you’ll be able to control all other vibrations coming toward and all around you! It is to say, however, that you get to decide which tune you wish to play.

“When you pray, move your feet.” – African proverb

In conventional society, we’re often told “not to make waves.” And, “don’t rock the boat.” Phooey! This Sutra gives us permission – in fact, encourages us – to do precisely that. Ocean waves, sound waves, waves of light — nature is full of waves that carry energy with them. So too, shall each of us. During these enlightened times, the yearning, the impulse, is there. We no longer feel satiated by staying in one place. We feel the urge to raise our vibration. That’s the build-up of pressure that is ready to be released.

Okay, your turn:

Are you ready to vibrate the cosmos? What path do you intend to clear? What are you sending out?  Are you vibrating at the frequency of love? Of service? Of loving service?
