Turning 50 today

Today I am 50 years old.  I am feeling so blessed!  I have very good health, I have a wonderful supportive family, two talented, engaging children, who I am so proud of and a husband by my side, despite his worries and madness is always there for me.

I woke up this morning on my birthday and felt the joys of life, after being on this planet for half a century! I am excited to live the 2nd part of my life.  Our children our grown up now and soon to fly the nest.  Much of the way I feel and act has been helped by learning this wonderful technology of Kundalini Yoga, it has given me a purpose in life, healed my body, daily supporting my physical body, and mentally giving me an inner strength to find the balance in life.  I can embrace, feel and accept the troughs in life, and I am able to see a positive light in most situations, it is just a point of view and how you see things. Becoming a Kundalini Yoga teacher is the best thing I could have done, the joy I get from teaching this technology so that others can see and feel a difference in their lives is very rewarding.  I am very happy to say that I have inspired my husband to practice, he now regularly joins me for my Wednesday class, and what a pleasure to see the difference in him!

Tension and Stress – kriyas to eleminate it

Not finding what you need at the moment you need it creates frustration.  In that frustration we become caught up with our emotions, neurotic impulses and endless worrying and thinking.  We become insensitive and numb and the numbness creates tiredness.  Not just the normal physical tiredness but “cold tiredness” which freezes the movement and flow of your life.  You become fatigued and exhausted by existence and you refuse try or strive. You become habitually insecure.

So what happens in a mid life crisis? Often women cannot come to terms with the fact that when they look in the mirrror they do not see the same women that they were 15 years ago, even though they feel like 25 inside!  So they do things to try and keep them from looking old, like having a face lift, suddenly going to the gym every day and exercising excessively, dressing like a teenager etc etc!

Men think about or actually leave their long term relationships and find a younger women in the hope that they will feel younger, buy fast expensive sport cars etc!  Unfortunately this does not neccessarily help.

Marraiges and long term relationships may hit rock bottam because of the unconscious shift in needs or exagggeration of long-term tendencies. Couples may find themselves stuck in a rut, the man trying to find acceptance and his self worth, the woman in his life knows all his faults and takes it upon herself to correct him, often this will lead to hard judgements, conflicts grow and communication lessens. Instead what is needed, is good communication, love and tolerance.

If we are not aware and ahead of the times, then we may flounder in the storm, feeling lost and trying to cling to our younger lives.  However things have changed, so we need to find new meaning and purpose in our lives.  If we can navigate our way through these transitions,  accepting the changes we feel physically and emotionally.  Be wise and accept that we have to slow down a bit, but work on keeping our spirit strong.  Eat consciously, devote more time to exercise, meditation and be moderate in what we do.  Recognise that we cannot push our body to the limits as we could when we were in our twenties.  Find the joy in life today and feel what the wisdom of the experience of life has given us.  Mentor and help others and find purpose in our lives.

In todays Kundalini Yoga Class, Shaunagh will focus on a practice a “phyiscal kriya” and meditation for “Inner Assessment”, to centre ourselves and maintain balance in our chakras, so we don’t act from just one chakra or area of our self, instead we use our sensitivity to integrate, balance and make affective decisions to take us through these transitions in life.

Directions to “The Signal Box” – when approaching from Hills Road end turn left off Brooklands Avenue and go down to the end of Clarendon Road, then turn left onto Fitzwilliam Road into Kaleidoscope.  The Signal Box is a little square, a water feature is next to it, with the light brown walls and large gray-framed windows with posters on them, framed by the tall pillars of the building in front. The entrance is round on the left side of the building and, once you come in, we are in the room to the right. There is nearby metered parking (free after 5pm) on Clarendon Road, Fitzwilliam Road and Shaftesbury Road. You can park your bike anywhere. Please leave shoes and coats in the hallway – but bring valuables into the practice space.
